Student Publications
Committed to fostering exceptional student publications.
Lab’s Student publications encompass a range of disciplines—from creative writing to journalism—and serve as a platform for student voices and critical thinking. They not only showcase the intellectual talents of our students but also cultivate valuable communication and collaboration skills that prepare them for future success.
The U-High Midway
Published since 1923, the U-High Midway is the newspaper at Lab's University High School.
The Midway is an independent newspaper that strives for excellence across all of our platforms. It is a student-run newspaper for the entire University of Chicago Laboratory High School community. It aims to not only represent the multitude of thoughts and experiences at U-High but also to inform community members through transparent, timely, and complete reporting. Views and experiences presented in the Midway do not necessarily reflect the views of the entire Midway staff, school, or administration.

Ouroboros Review
Ouroboros Review is Lab’s only literary translation journal. It accepts literary or creative translations from Lab’s diverse community of students, faculty, and staff. The symbol for the journal is an ouroboros, a snake eating its tail, which represents the sign of infinity. For Lab, the ouroboros represents the infinite translations that may exist for poems, prose, or any literature text. Ouroboros Review is published annually with a new theme for each edition. Through the translation of literature pieces from a wide variety of languages—including those which are less represented and translated—Ouroboros Review is designed to encourage perspectives that differ from the American mainstream.
