Affinity groups are peer networks where individuals come together because they have an aspect of their identity in common. Affinity groups are ideally led by sponsors that share the same identity as group members. These spaces support an individual’s capacity to strengthen a part of themself as they navigate various spaces in the larger community. 

All Lab Affinity groups are open to all Lab students.

At Lab, "Labbies" have the opportunity to explore more than 60 clubs, programs, and organizations. Whatever the passion may be, students are likely to find an extracurricular activity to engage in outside the classroom. Some of our clubs and associations are local chapters of a larger network of students involved in regional and national service or competition, like Model UN or Science Olympiad. At least one national club was founded right here at Lab, WiSTEM.

The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) defines interest groups as a bringing together of people who want to learn about, share, and engage in a special interest, hobby, skill, or topic. Interest groups at Lab are a hybrid of student-run and faculty-partnered groups. Interest groups are not officially recognized as an institutional school club. 

At Lab, student leadership isn't just a title – it's a transformative experience. By taking initiative, collaborating with peers, and partnering with faculty and staff mentors, students hone their communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, fostering a vibrant school community where everyone feels empowered to contribute and make a positive difference.
