For children entering grades 3–5
You’ve probably heard the expression “a picture is worth a thousand words,” but is it true? If I show you a drawing of Mickey Mouse, is your mind flooded with one thousand words? Probably not. You might think of the words “Mouse, ears, eyes, nose, tail, pants, gloves, shoes, smile…” and a few more. If I gave your list to someone else to draw, what will they create? If that sounds like fun, this is the class for you! In WORDS + PICTURES = COMICS we’ll be using group exercises, drawing games, and comic reading to find as many different ways of combining, mixing and matching words and pictures, and then learn how to link images together to tell strange, exciting, and hilarious stories. Students of all writing and drawing abilities are welcomed!
