Comic Makers

For children entering grades 6–8

If you read comics, webtoons, graphic novels or manga, you know they can be funny, scary, exciting, romantic, poetic, and everything in-between. Every successful comic, from Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes to Raina Telgemeier’s Smile, succeeds because of the same thing: a smart and surprising pairing of words and pictures. In this class we’ll use exercises, games, and group projects to explore new and exciting ways of fusing words and pictures together. Then we’ll take what we learn and apply it to making our very own short comic book! This fun, fast-paced class requires no special drawing or writing abilities. Just bring your enthusiasm and creativity!
