Welcome Zackary Livingston, New Middle School Principal
Zackary Livingston

The Laboratory Schools are pleased to announce the selection of Zackary Livingston for Middle School Principal.

“When he visited Lab,” writes Director of Schools Tori Jueds, “Zack impressed us with his deep appreciation for the middle school journey, his ability to build trusting relationships, and his student-centered approach.”

Students, parents, and teachers who spent time with Livingston positively commented on his many strengths. A student declared that “he really gets us and knows how to be a principal,” while others found him “extremely charismatic” and expressed a belief that he “could build deep connections with students.” “Authentic communicator and caring educator who understands and likes working with middle school students,” said one parent. One teacher highlighted his “great care for supporting teachers and building relationships within the community,” as well as his “strong understanding of Lab’s mission and values,” and another called him “magically approachable.”

“The opportunity to lead and shape the educational experience of young people is one that should not be taken lightly,” Livingston said about the position. “I am committed to fostering a nurturing and intellectually stimulating environment that aligns with the Lab values and traditions.” He adds, “I am excited to embark on this journey and look forward to making an impactful contribution to the Lab community.”

Zack brings a wealth of experience to this position. He joins us from Zion-Benton Township High School District 126, where he has served as Principal since 2021. Prior to joining Zion-Benton, he served as Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning for North Chicago Community High School for four years. Previously, he was an educator and Resident Assistant Principal at Daniel Webster Middle School and Head of Upper School Social Studies and Science at Dekalb Academy of Technology and Environment. Zack received a BS in mass communication/media production from Southern Adventist in 2009 and went on to obtain an MS in elementary education from Quincy University in 2011 and an MA in educational administration from Dominican University in June 2011. A lifelong learner and native Chicagoan, Zack anticipates completing his EdD in educational leadership at Concordia University Chicago this July.

“I am honored and thrilled to accept the position of Middle School Principal at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools,” Livingston says about his decision. “I am eager to contribute to the esteemed educational community and work collaboratively with the dedicated faculty, staff, students, and parents.”

Livingston will join the Lab community this summer.
