New members invigorate the Alumni Association Executive Board

This year, amidst many challenges and upheavals, Lab has been lucky to have 12 new members join its Alumni Association Executive Board (AAEB) to help the Schools continue to grow through adversity. “I’m excited about celebrating 125 years of Lab with many new and enthusiastic AAEB members,” says AAEB President Sari Weichbrodt, ’94. Bringing together Labbies who graduated anywhere between 2017 and 1945, the board is a truly intergenerational effort to support and shape the school that they all love. “I believe it is important to volunteer my time as an alumni board member because Lab is a place that is very dear to me,” says new board member David Greenfield, ’97. “As a lifelong Lab member I want to see students have memorable experiences and lasting friendships.”

AAEB members volunteer to connect Lab with its vast alumni community, keeping graduates aware of all that is happening at their alma mater and advising the Schools on how to keep alums engaged. Specifically, the board helps organize class reunions; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives; support for the Fund for Lab; and local and regional networking events for the over 10,000 living alumni of the Laboratory Schools.

They also run the Alumni Awards, in which members of the community nominate fellow alums for the Distinguished Alumni Award, the Rising Star Professional Achievement Award, and the Alumni Service Award, the winners of which will be announced at the 2022 Alumni Weekend on May 20–21. Other events that weekend include milestone class reunion dinners, an all-alumni after party, basketball and soccer games in Kovler Gym, and campus tours led by current Lab students.

For many alumni on the board, serving is a way for them to connect their history with Lab to the institution’s exciting future. “Lab is truly a special place filled with talented people,” says Weichbrodt. “I think continuing to grow our alumni community helps leverage that talent to help Lab evolve and succeed.”
