Summer Link to Future Success
Lab proudly facilitates placing U-High students in a wide variety of internships every summer. From the sciences to investment banking, data analysis to non-profit management, students involved with Summer Link can follow their curiosity and engage in work experiences that excite them and open new doors. High School librarian, Susan Augustine, and High School history teacher, Christy Gerst, manage the Business, Social Sciences, and Humanities Summer Link Program, placing 32 students in jobs around the city last summer. It's a labor of love and a commitment to Lab students' futures.
"My internship at the website CharacTour was a very valuable experience for me, as I was able to be creative and learn about the workplace in a hands-on way. I was able to integrate my own interests in the humanities and I felt free to build my own path with each project I was involved with!" shared eleventh - grader Eliza Dearing.
Augustine and Gerst manage opportunities available with various University of Chicago professors in business, economics, law, and public policy, or with institutions such as the University Press, the Logan Center for the Arts, and the Media, Arts, Data, and Design Center, as well as with private business employers such as Morningstar, Global Intellectual Property Law Group, and Citadel. They work with members of our community to find internships and place students in meaningful positions that enable them to apply their learning and acquire new skills. Summer Link is real world, real work, and real learning.
