Global Citizenship Starts Here
It's one thing to be able to recite color names or articles of clothing in French, Spanish, German or Chinese. Travel phrases definitely come in handy. Language proficiency may sound like an admirable end goal. Lab's World Language teachers, however, have much bigger plans for their students. The department endeavors to graduate linguistically and culturally competent students who will understand the world through the lens of a language and culture beyond their own. It all starts with "hello" when formal language instruction begins in third grade.
The program teaches vital skills for the world of today and tomorrow, enabling students to understand diverse international social and cultural environments and successfully navigate them. Lab graduates are global citizens who engage with the world with compassion, curiosity, respect, and open-mindedness. Getting there is the fun part! As a capstone of the program, many students choose to participate in travel and exchange programs to Argentina, China, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Costa Rica. It is experiential learning at its finest, giving our students the tools needed to compassionately navigate today's world as global citizens.
The bedrock of Lab's philanthropy efforts, the Fund for Lab, provides the Laboratory Schools with funds that allow us to continue to invest in the people and programs that are at the heart of the Lab experience. Every gift, no matter the size, makes an immediate and lasting impact to ensure that Lab continues to thrive. Give today.
