U-High student leaders see Obama speak

As part of the University of Chicago, the Laboratory Schools routinely have access to people, resources, and events that make the Lab experience like no other. When President Obama gave his first public address after leaving office, it was at UChicago—and five U-Highers were selected to attend.

The President discussed the importance of young leaders and his own experience as a community organizer. Lessons of leadership and civic engagement come to life when Lab draws on its relationship to the University of Chicago and to the South Side to enrich its students' education and deepen their ties to the wider community.

Says the High School principal, "Even though the students are young, their voices, thoughts, and points of view are important. They deserve to be heard, and they have the power to make a difference."
