Corvus Gallery debuts student-sourced YOU BE MY ALLY works inspired by Jenny Holzer

This fall the Corvus Gallery debuts student-sourced works inspired by the University of Chicago YOU BE MY ALLY public exhibition by artist Jenny Holzer. To create their art "installations" students used a custom YOU BE MY ALLY augmented reality mobile app to "project" quotations onto real-life buildings, landscapes, or other objects: "identity is memory", "not it is not the true story", or "the truth is my subject".

Organizers at UChicago Arts explain that "this public artwork demonstrates how art, especially when mobilizing new technologies, can provide collective and meaningful experiences within the converging social and political contexts of the COVID-19 pandemic, calls for social justice."

The Corvus Gallery will continue to post new images as classes complete their projects throughout the rest of fall. Visit the gallery here.
