
From the Midway—Hands-on experience with paleontology through the University of Chicago’s Fossil Lab
The visual arts program at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools is designed to cultivate creativity, critical thinking, and artistic skill across all grade levels.
From developmentally appropriate art classes in Early Childhood to advanced studios in University High, students explore a wide range of mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and digital media. State-of-the-art facilities and a dedicated faculty of practicing artists and educators provide an inspiring environment for artistic growth. Regular exhibitions and community art projects showcase student work, fostering a vibrant and inclusive artistic community.

Led by the fine arts faculty and in partnership with a dedicated group of parents, LabArts has grown into what is now several weeks of events and activities centered around gallery-style installations of more than 1,500 pieces of artwork, along with theater and musical performances throughout.

Organized by students, for students, ArtsFest is an annual event in the High School that celebrates the creativity and self-expression of our students through a variety of workshops led by students, faculty, and guest artists. This annual event offers an immersive experience that explores many different forms of art, from traditional to unconventional mediums. education.
