High School Classroom

University High School | Grades 9-12

Within University High School education is not a monologue, it's a dynamic dialogue that cultivates critical thinking and meaningful engagement.

By placing discussions at the heart of our education approach, our faculty empower students to articulate their thoughts, challenge perspectives, and develop the communication skills essential for their success in academia as well as the skills for them to thrive as productive citizens of a global society.

Class Retreats

The U-High Class Retreats play an important role in the social-emotional development of our students

Class Retreats are an integral part of the University High School program. They provide an important means for students to spend time together as a graduating class and to develop bonds with their classmates. It is our hope that all of our students participate in these lively community-building activities.

The U-High Experience

In University High our discussion-based curriculum takes center stage, and our students actively participate in the co-creation of knowledge. Beyond textbooks and lectures, our classrooms become vibrant spaces for exploration, debate, and the exchange of ideas.

Program of Studies

By the time students leave U-High, they are equipped with the independence and academic and personal skills they’ll use to navigate college and life with confidence and leadership.

The basic curriculum emphasizes analytical reading, writing, research, strong math and science skills, and broad access to the arts. Students regularly have free time, and the school works with students to help them learn to balance their workload and social needs. It almost goes without saying that virtually every U-Higher graduates from a four-year college, and they attend outstanding colleges around Chicago and the country.
