College Counseling
The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools college counseling program is guided by a student-centered philosophy and is informed by current best practices.
It embodies the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework, which is at the heart of Lab’s Learning and Counseling practice.
College Counseling Philosophy
We support the mission of the Schools by encouraging our students to do the best work they can, to get involved in their school lives, and to be active participants in life outside the school.
We consider college-going as an integral part of the educational process in itself and support the worth and value of each child and their postsecondary aspirations. Our team encourages students and families to consider “fit” as the most important aspect of the college decision, and we provide factual information, feedback, and advice in ways that enable the student and their family to make informed decisions. Lab’s college counseling program provides a full complement of services for both our students and their families. The team works collaboratively to provide a full spectrum of support and guidance for students and families as they embark on the college search and application process, or as they consider other post-secondary options.
