Summer Lab 2009Welcome to the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools' Summer Lab website. This program, now well into its fourth decade, reflects the Laboratory Schools' commitment to extension of the schools' mission into the summer season. A panoply of enrichment and adventure awaits, as the Lab Schools continue to build their engagement with their extended community, including parents, teachers, students and neighbors, from around the corner and around the world. Summer Lab is a six-week program including Summer School, Adventure Kids Day Camp, Summer Lab Sports Camps, and Summer Lab on Stage. Summer Lab strives to embody the notion that love of learning is an appetite that never wanes – particularly not on vacation! Summer memories, here we come! Summer School Director Cecilia Mullon is a veteran teacher not only of many Summer Schools past, but also of many years at the Laboratory Schools in their 'regular season'. She has marshaled resources from within and without the Laboratory Schools to present a truly excellent array of opportunities for the academically inclined. And of course, nobody forgets it's summertime, so academic 'rigor' is tempered with much summer fun and exploration. Adventure Kids Day Camp celebrates its ninth anniversary under the watchful and adventurous eye of Director Meghan Janda. Her philosophy of adventure education supports the core values of cooperation, trust, and teambuilding. These values drive the adventures for Adventure Kids. Summer Lab on Stage enters its seventh season under the high-energy direction of Lab School musicians and teachers Katy Sinclair and Marc Piane. The six-week course will culminate in live, on-stage performances. Art direction and construction resources are joining the staff this year as this collaborative musical extravaganza again reaches blockbuster proportions. Director Debbie Ribbens continues to add exciting new offerings to Summer Lab Sports Camps. This summer is no exception: Children entering Nursery - 1st grade may choose Fit, Fun and Games, Golf, Soccer, Baseball, Dance, or Gymnastics, while Grades 2 - 8 have several additional choices for this 3 - 5:30 pm time of day. Please know that children must be toilet trained prior to coming to Summer Lab. Welcome again to Summer Lab 2009! Please browse at your leisure through our entire offering, but don’t forget to register soon and to keep checking back here for news and views as the summer progresses. While you may register on line as late as June 12, many of the offerings by that time will be either full or canceled. Feel free, also, to call ahead to explore availabilities, although no reservations can be made via telephone.
