Mystery Writing Workshop
Open to students entering grades 4 - 5
Super sleuths, plot twists and captivating crooks—kid-authors-in-training will investigate these elements of thrilling mysteries, discovering the tools to craft their own mini-whodunits by the end of the course and develop story-starters to use in the future. Various lessons will include Ink It Out (brainstorming ideas), Suspense Builders (structuring excitement with a strong beginning, middle and end), Good Bad Guys (writing characters with flair), Put It Here (visiting a TBD location to capture the feel of a specific spot), and Code Creator (developing secret messages). Easy-to-use devices, such as T.O.M.B. (The big idea, Outline, Manuscript and Book) will help take the “mystery” out of weaving mysteries—and get young authors excited about writing in general.
Session I: June 23 – July 11
