Readers and Writers Workshop I
Open to students entering grade 1
This class will provide integrated reading and writing activities designed for young children. Each child will be given a pre and post diagnostic survey. The teachers will use this information to provide small group instruction designed to meet the specific needs of individuals. The reading and writing projects will include time for art and games. Listening to stories will help children understand that stories have characters and plots. Our goal is to guide the non-readers to learn more about print, left to right directionality, and the one to one matching of words with voice, and finger pointing. We will encourage the emergent readers to extend their strategic reading behaviors. This literacy workshop will allow children to be involved with a community of learners and have fun this summer while they develop as readers and writers.
