As I lie on my bed gazing out my windows while the cool breeze blows against my face, I see other windows from the buildings across from mine. I can only imagine what the people behind these windows are seeing, maybe a different view or a different world.
Across the street I see Lake Michigan, the smooth reflection of my building on the pale blue water gives me chills, as I can almost see my own reflection on the water. I see the reflection of my building and other buildings glistening in the night. I see the reflection of other people looking out their windows. I wonder if they can see my reflection, know my thoughts.
While looking out my windows, I see a face formed by the glaring light in the night. The face seems to be loking straight at me. I move closer to the window to get a better look. Its eyes penetrate, draining my energy. Then one by one the lights in the windows fade. Fade until there is no light to be seen. I'm alone again.
What is behind a window, I wonder as my imagination drifts like the waves.
