It's the middle of the movie, and they're about to hang Esmerelda, a gypsy woman who is accused of murder. Quasimodo (a.k.a. Hunchback of Notre Dame) is a bell ringer at Notre Dame who loves Esmerelda. When the people are about to hang Esmerelda, Quasimodo swings on a rope and picks up Esmerelda and carries her back to the sanctuary at Notre Dame Cathedral.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame was directed by William Dieterle and was filmed at RKO Radio Pictures in the year 1939. The original story was written by Victor Hugo. Charles Laughton plays Quasimodo, a sweet hunchback who the the people are scared of because he's ugly. But really, he's a nice hero.

Maureen O'Hara plays Esmerelda, a weird gypsy who entertains Paris with her dancing, but who is accused of murder later in the movie. Cedric Hardwicke plays Dom Claude Frollo, a mean, ugly, pale judge who is Quasimodo's master. Alan Marshal plays Phoebus, who likes Esmerelda and gets killed by Frollo. The movie is about a hunchback who tries to save a woman he likes.

Quasimodo is a sweet hunchback who gets put down because of his ugly looks. He likes Esmerelda, a weird gypsy. But Frollo, who also is obsessed in Esmerelda kills Phoebus. A man Esmerelda also likes. Frollo then accuses Esmerelda of killing him. Then Esmerelda has to take sort of a test. She's blindfolded, and if she takes the right dagger she's innocent. If she takes the other dagger she's not. But she takes the wrong dagger, and even though Quasimodo tries to convince the court that she's innocent, they plan to hang her. Then right before they hang her, Quasimodo swings out the window, recues her, then they swing back to Quasimodo's home--the bell tower. But then thousands of people outside try to break in to get Esmerelda and Quasimodo! Will they get out? Or will they be trapped?

Quasimodo is an intriguing character. He's cute, because you feel bad for him that he's ugly. Also, it must take a lot of courage to go outside while everyone is screaming at you. He might be ugly, but he's really nice.

I would recommend this movie to adults, rather than kids, since it's sort of violent for kids. I liked it because of Quasimodo. He's cute. I didn't like it because it's violent, for instance when Quasimodo pours hot lead on people while protectng the cathedral and kills them. But still, it's a good movie!
