Rock and Roll MovieBack to the FutureReviewed by Jialie Lin Chen
Late at night, Marty McFly (a time traveler from 1985 to 1955, when his parents were still in their teens) puts his walkman head phones on George McFly's head. Marty is dressed in a radiation suit. Holding the walkman in his hand like a gun, he clicks "on"--for heavy metal rock full blast! George wakes up screaming. " I am Darth Vader and I come from planet Vulcan," says Marty. Marty goes on to tell George (Marty's future dad, if Marty's lucky enough to get his mom and dad together) to ask Lorraine Baines (Marty's hopefully future mom) to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance--or else he will come back and fry George's brains out. Why is Marty being so mean to George? Because the Dance is supposed to be George and Lorraine's first date, and if they don't get together, then George and Lorraine won't get married and Marty won't exist! Back to the Future is both serious and funny, or at least I think so. It's serious because Marty's life hangs on a thread. It's funny because there are many really funny parts. The director's name is Robert Zemeckis and the main characters are: Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, Christopher LIoyd as Dr. Emmett Brown, Lea Thompson as Lorraine Baines, Thomas F. Wilson as Biff Tannen, andCrispin Glover as George McFly. Marty is the hero of the story. If Marty isn't in the story, well, there wouldn't be a story! Doc (Dr. Brown) is the person who invented the time machine which sends Marty into the past(1985 to 1955, 30 years into the past, wow!) ! Lorraine is Marty's mom, and she has the hots for Marty, her own son . (Lorraine is just a teenager in 1955, so she isn't married so therefore she doesn't know her son yet!) Biff is a big bully, and since he, like everyone else during 1955, doesn't know who Marty is yet, in his own bully way, he accidentally interferes in all the plots Marty attempts to get his parents together. George is Marty's dad. In the movie he is dumb, nerdy, and has a really annoying laugh. This movie is great. The music, the excitement, the suspense and the romance are all wonderful. But if I had to chose what's best, I'd chose the suspense and the excitement, for example: Dr. Brown buckles Einstein (his dog) up in the time machine. He has a control/remote for the machine--really a specially outfitted sportscar--in his hands. Eleven miles per hour, 22 miles, 33 miles, 44 miles, 55 miles, 66 miles, 77 miles, 88 miles... VROOM, BANG, BOOM!!!! The car/time machine disappears. "You disintegrated Einstein!" Marty gasps. Don't worry. Einstein turns out just fine. I really recommend the movie. Both kids and most adults will like it. It's good to watch in both theater and on video. In the theater though, it might sometimes be too loud. And on video it won't be as big. I have only watched it on video. But if it is in theater again, then I would go see it in the theater. It would sure be worth the money! I adore this movie, and I think it's great!
