Cool Runnings is a very cool movieCool RunningsReviewed by Jennifer M. Horace Cool Runnings is a hilarious movie. This movie is not only funny it has a message: that just because a person is different it doesn't mean you can't be friends. "Cool Runnings also shows that if you try you can do anything. The part when Irv, (John Candy) the coach of the first Jamaican bobsled team, asks Derice Bannock , " Do the words give up mean anything to you? " and Derice says," Not a thing." displays this. Cool Runnings is a Walt Disney home video . It is about a team of runners who strive to be the best bobsled team they can be and how they work to prove to others that they are really good bobsleders. I'll start from the beginning. Three runners are trying out to represent Jamaica in the Olympics in track. Junior Bevil (Rawie Lewis) trips, falls and accidentally makes Derice Bannock and Yul Brenner (Malik Yoba who stars now on the television series "New York Undercover") fall down right along with him, and none of them makes the Olympics. Derice really wants to go to the Olympics. So he goes to see the president of Jamaica, Mr. Coolidge (Winston Stong), and begs him to redo the tryouts. There Derice sees a picture of his father (who won an Olympic gold medal in track) with another gold medal winner. He finds out that the other gold medal winner is names Irv, an x-bobsleder and a former bobsledding coach who lives in Jamaica. Derice recruits Junior and Yul Brenner, along with Sanka Coffie (Doug E. Doug), who is the best push cart driver in all of Jamaica, to start a new bobsled team with Irv--and to prove to the world that they can be the best! This is a must movie, and it is very funny. I do recommend you rent it. It is rated PG so both kids and adults will enjoy it. At least my parents did!
