In Dean Koontz's Cold Fire Holly Thorne is a persistent journalist working for a dead end news writing job. She works for a small time newspaper that doesn't have many buyers. She was casually driving by when she stumbles upon a big story. She sees Jim Ironheart save a boy from being squashed by a drunk driver. She literally saw him -- "sweep the boy from the path of the pickup." (pg. 21) -- and as she went over and picked him up, she attempted to interview him. He only told her his name and left her with this pickup line -- " But I gotta say - your modesty is refreshing. He looked at her for a long beat, fixed her with those exceptional blue eyes. So are you Miss Thorne. " (pg. 29) --. This was a very important part of the book even though it was part of the beginning because it stirred all of Holly's curiosity for Jim Ironheart, the hero who she would come to love.

One late night Holly was researching some paper headlines when she stumbles upon some more stories on how Jim had saved more lives. She knew it was Jim because one lady who witnessed it talked of his wondrous blue eyes. Holly comes to think Jim has some sort of physic power. This part of the book is also very important because this is an important part of the plot where Holly becomes very curious about how Jim is saving these lives not just in one area but all over the US..

Holly's strong liking for Jim made it especially hard for her to keep her cool while she was continuing the story. Since Jim's life is so private it made it yet harder to continue the story. This aspect makes the book a little more interesting because it shows how Holly's clean cool approach is messed up by her liking for Jim.

As the story continues, the urge from Jim and Holly to be together gets much greater. If they come together what will happen ? It will surely be good, well written, and keep you buried for hours; so read Dean Koontz's Cold Fire.
