His wife's name was Jane. She died when she was pushed down the well in their back yard.
Abigail, was a very bright 8 year old. She had a very wild imagination. Almost every day, she would drag her brother, Jonathan to the village by their house. There, they buried dead animals because Abigail thought that the poor animals deserved a proper funeral. One day when they were in the village, she meets another girl about her age named Hester. They became friends right away. Hester the next day asked if Abigail could come to her house. Ezra gave permission, and, the whole family finds out that Abigail was dead. Hester taunted:"Abigail came to my house! Abigail came to my house"(page 45)!
After they discovered that Hester killed their loved one, they moved immediately to another colony. They know that Hester was a Goode.
When Ezra passed on, Jonathan and Rachel cremated him, and buried him in a strongbox along with his amulet-which he never took off. They buried the strongbox under Ezra's favorite tree. They grow saddened because they are the last Fiers. Rachel and Jonathan separate when they grow older, and Jonathan marries. He has a son named Simon, who also believes the family is cursed. So, Simon moves away..And changes his name to Fear, hoping the curse will stay buried along with the name.
One hundred years later,the strongbox was unearthed, and the curse was released again.
