"First Time"

Judy Blume's novel talks about Katherine's "First Time" in the "I'm not a virgin" world. Katherine is finishing her senior year of High School and is going to college. But first she must deal with and learn what "love" really means. Katherine has gone out with a lot guys like Tommy Arenson, but she says, "That wasn't love... that was childish infatuation." (Pg. 21) This time Katherine has a different feeling towards her love life. She tries to take steps much slower and her new boyfriend, who she met at a New years Eve party, respects what Katherine has to say. Although Michael is very pursuasive, one thing Katherine can't stand, she is very in love with Michael.

While Katherine is taken by all of these comfusions anout Michael, in a way Katherine is curiose about having sex for the first time and Michael is the first one to approach her about it.. Though throughout her new experience, Katherine learns to take steps from the wrong and good things with her decisions in life. Michael and Katherine decide that they are going to do it and that they are both comfortable with it.

Michael and Katherine have shared a lot together including their bodies, and they go through some decisions through out their experiences. Katherine learns the facts about having sex and she also asks her grandmother for help. Katherine has been having sex with Michael for awhile now and she is affraid that she might get pregnant, so then she asks her grandmother to help her see a doctor. After Katherine goes to the doctor, she ends up taking birth control pills.
