From a Child to a Man

Mattimeo by Brian Jaques
Reviewed by Katie Tully

In Mattimeo, a book written by Brian Jaques, a young mouse, the son of the greatest mouse warrior, learns what responsibility is. He also learns to cooperate and work together when everything has gone wrong. He learns to do this to accomplish his goal; freeing his friends and him from the 'creel one', Slagar the Fox who has captured the creatures and will take them on a long journey to sell slaves. This all happened when Slagar came and took them from their peaceful Redwall Abby in the Mossflower Woods.

Throughout the book Mattimeo is the creature on whom all of the other creatures could rely. It seems that whenever they would be in trouble, Mattimeo was the only who stayed calm, or at least acted like he was calm. all of the creatures had to have courage, strength, and most of all faith that their parents could find them.

In this book no matter how scared anyone was they kept their hopes alive. When one creature would say something discouraging, another would think of something to say to prove them wrong. The parents and friends trying to capture Mattimeo and his friends wouldn't give up on what they were trying to accomplish.

Overall I really liked this book. Even though it got confusing sometimes, it made some really great points. One of the best thing was that if you have your mind set on something, no matter how impossible it seems, you can reach your goal. Also if everybody works together and tries listening to other people and using other peoples ideas, they can come up with great ideas.
