Kitchen is a story about a young lady Mikage Sakurai. In the beginning of the book her mother died. When Mikage goes to her mother's funeral a young man whose name is Yuichi Tanabe meets her and tells her that he was great friends with her mother. She starts to remember her mother telling her about a young man. She remembers that he works at a flower shop. After that the Tanabe take her into there house and life.

At first you might think "Kitchen? This most be a recipe book." It's not. Kitchen is called what it is because that's her favorite room. People in this book all have a different place or thing they feel comfortable around or in. For example after Mikage's mother died she didn't feel safe sleeping in her bed so what she did is she pulled out a sleeping roll and slept in the kitchen near the refrigerator. In a way I am like Mikage because my favorite room is the kitchen. Mikage also has another friend who always likes to be next to trees.

When she goes to Yuishie's home she meets his mother or at least she thinks it is his mother. Oh I won't ruin the surprise. I think kitchen is a great book and I think you will like it too.
