Home court advantage to Connections 2001 - March 3

On March 3, 2001 the Parents' Association will host the annual Connections fundraiser gala in the brand new Kovler Gymnasium. By special dispensation from the Board of Directors, an evening of fine wine and dining will be held for parents, teachers, and friends of Lab. Proceeds will kick off a new capital project to upgrade the Science Department laboratories - the "Labs at Lab."

Co-chairs Ned Reece and Mary Haderlein have already brought numerous resources to bear. Yet, the search continues for more volunteers to make this an evening to remember. Traditional activities such as a raffle for excellent prizes, along with an auction for the highly desirable output of the Lab School creative community will be included. Auction and raffle contributions are eagerly awaited - please let the Connections Committee know if you would like to donate that chalet in Switzerland or the yacht in St. Tropez. Equally thrilling would be a week-end cottage in New Buffalo or a round of golf. And please share your leads in the electronics, travel, and sports industries.

And the hallways are abuzz! "Reliable source" notwithstanding, Reece vehemently denies any awareness of a highly placed Lab School official who is contemplating putting his job on the auction block! "Far be it from me to inflame the passions on a controversial issue such as this!" he avers.

"However, I do suppose stranger things have happened, now that you mention it. And there is no accounting for what some people will be happy to buy in support of this event!"

In keeping with the alternating year tradition, Connections 2001 will be of the casual variety. Don't be looking for casual, however, in the CommitteeÕs pursuit of making this a wing-ding-doozy of a party. Dancing? Absolutely!

For those wondering which committees are looking for volunteers, only the fun jobs are left, so please call quickly! The Ad Book will be taking on a new look, and a telephone and in-person sales crew is being built up and briefed. Let us know if businesses in your sphere of influence would like to be included in this year's new format. And, of course, if irresistible art has come home from your Labster, you'd better have a page to display it on; proud parents can purchase "KidArt" pages again this year.

How about the wine and dine? To find out what's happening on this front, you'll just have to get in touch with the committee. A great opportunity to volunteer awaits you.
