James Chandler, the George M. Pullman Professor in English at the University of Chicago, has been appointed to the Laboratory Schools Board of Directors by President Don Michael Randel.
Chandler joined the faculty as an Instructor in 1976 and completed his Ph.D. in English at the University in 1978. He also serves on the Committee on History of Culture.
He has published three books: England in 1819: The Politics of Literary Culture and the Case of Romantic Historicism (1998); Questions of Evidence: Proof, Practice, and Persuasion Across the Disciplines (1994), which he co-edited; and Wordsworth's Second Nature: A Study of the Poetry and Politics (1984). He currently is completing The New Cambridge History of Romantic Literature.
Chandler, who served another term on the Board from 1993 to 1998, and his wife, Elizabeth. have a son, Michael, who is a student at University High School. Their daughter, Catherine, is a 1999 graduate of the Schools.
Board member Ann Williams has completed her terms.
