Camp Story
By: Danielle Jordan
CHAPTER 1
Eliza Ruther is a seventh grade girl. She has a brother, Robin and a sister, Mary Ann. Eliza has long, dark brown hair, and is four feet, nine inches. She has small dainty fingers, and is very pretty. She paints the most beautiful paintings at a young age of twelve. Everyday she walks to school with Mony Sideweight and Ellen Watson. Mony is a bit stocky, and can take care of herself. She has short blond hair and emerald green eyes. She's very tall, and is good at wrestling. Ellen is very skinny, and is shorter than Eliza. She has piercing blue eyes that seem to look straight though you. Music loves her and she loves music. She sings and dances and makes up songs. She also plays the flute and is very good at it with that.
Josh Russell and Tony Bruther are human meanies and are just plain bullies. Unfortunately they're both in the girl's class. Anna Tabotski and Cecillia Mortana think they're so cool. They're always whispering to each other. Cecillia has blond hair with many waves, and Anna has light, curly brown hair.
One day Eliza gets informed that she has to go on a school trip to Oregon, Illinois.
"Oh, no," said Eliza on a Sunday afternoon. "Mom, I have to go to a stupid camp tomorrow. I also stay there until Wednesday."
"I think that will be fun, Eliza. I'm sure there will be many fun activities."
"Its not fun Mom, its torture," said Eliza.
"It won't be torture,Eliza. You'll have fun if you let yourself have fun."
"Yeah right," Eliza said sarcastically.
"Like I said, you'll have fun if you want to."
"Whatever," she said as she went to get a snack.
"Don't whatever me. You just march upstairs and start packing," she said as she did a shooing motion. Eliza slowly, slowly as possible walked up the stairs.
CHAPTER 2
Eliza, Ellen and Mony appoached the bus that will take them to Oregon.
"Let's get this over with," sighed Eliza.
"But I think this will be fun," Ellen said.
"I certainly don't," argued Mony.
As they got into the bus they looked out the window as if to jump out and declare that they're not coming. The bus started moving.
"Here we go," said Mony in a low voice.
As soon as the bus reached Oregon, they quickly jumped out from the two and a half hour drive.
"That was a horrible long ride." said Eliza tiredly.
"Yeah," Mony agreed. "Thank the Lord that we're finally here. I never want to go back if it takes so long."
They all got assigned to a counselor. This is how it read:
TARRY
TONY BRUTHER
RACHEL GUMPY
THOMAS KNIGHTAL
CECILLIA MORTANA
JOSH RUSSELL
ELIZA RUTHER
MONY SIDEWEIGHT
SIMON SLOTTY
ANNA TABOTSKI
ELLEN WATSON
"Simon, Rachel and Thomas are in our group?!" said Mony with a sneer. "Oh, no."
"Oh, no is right," said Eliza.
Rachel is a small little girl, and has lifeless scrawny light brown hair with grey eyes. She doesn't talk to anybody and keeps to herself. Simon is the snottiest boy in the seventh grade. Sometimes secretly we call him Simon snotty, because he is.
Thomas is always getting pushed around. He's rather short, and pretty skinny. I feel sorry for him, but I still don't hang around him. At recess all he does is walk around or race against an imaginary friend. He pretends that he always wins, not surprising.
"Eliza, we have a counselor named Tarry," said Ellen. "Is Tarry a girl or boy name?"
"Probably a girl, because look, here she comes!" exclaimed Mony.
The person walking towards towards them said, "Hi, I'm Tarry your counselor. And you must be...."
"Oh, our names are Eliza, Mony and my name is Ellen," she said pointing to each girl including herself in turn.
Then Tarry said in a loud voice, "My group over here. We're going on a hike, so come along."
Tarry is unlike anybody I've seen before. She wears a lose pony tail over her light brown hair with many grey streaks. She has pretty dark skin, like the color of an Indian, except lighter. She has greenish-grey eyes with a tint of sparkle, and they're always laughing.
"Are we just hiking through the woods?" asked Mony.
"Yes," answered Tarry.
CHAPTER 3
Tarry kept going farther and farther ahead of them. They tried to catch up, but finally they had lost her completely.
"Where'd she go?" asked Eliza.
"On the count of three everybody shout TARRY, okay," said Mony.
"One, two, three," Mony shouted. "TAAARRRY," everyone screamed. Silence. "TAAARRRY." Again no answer.
"What are we gonna do?" everyone asked to each other.
"Let's keep going," someone shouted.
"All right," said Mony.
So they walked though that thorny path. Every once in a while someone tripped or stumbled and you heard a cry of pain, but they kept going. Barely any light at all came though the trees. It was spooky. They realized they would have to talk to each about something or else they would be scared half to death. It was comforting to hear your own voice speak in that kind of place. They walked, and kept going. They thought it would be a waste to stop and rest because wherever this path led to they would get there faster if they didn't rest. They kept going.... and going.... and going until they found a small rock. Ellen quickly ran over to it and plopped herself down before anyone else had the chance to. As soon as she did she jumped up in surprise because a voice, a low rumbling voice said:
"IF YOU MANAGE TO GET EVERYONE ON THIS ROCK THAT YOU WERE SITTING ON, IT WILL LOWER INTO GROUND. THERE IS FOOD AND WATER DOWN HERE. I KNOW YOURE HUNGRY YOU HAVENT EATEN IN SIX HOURS."
"But its such a small rock. How are we supposed to fit on such a small rock?" asked Cecillia.
"FIGURE IT OUT," said the voice.
CHAPTER 4
They spent an hour trying to figure out what they could do to stay on the rock until they lowered into the ground.
They thought it would work if they all circled around the rock then put one foot on the edge of the rock. Then find the person straight across from you and hold onto their hands. After that quickly swing your other foot on top of your first foot. They tried that, it didn't work. Somebody's foot was still on the ground. They tried it again. This time it sank pretty deep, but then someone put their foot on the ground. The rock popped back up, which sent them flying.
"Let's try again," said Mony encouragely. They did. Success finally came.
"We did it," everyone shouted as they sank into the earth deeper and deeper.
Eliza was thinking: Who was this person telling them what to do? Where are we? How did we get here? All these question fluttered in her mind.
"Eliza look at this!" Ellen exclaimed.
"Oh, my," Eliza said because there was not much else to say.
It was magnificent! Roses, Daffodils, Merigolds, Sunflowers and any other marvelous plant you could even think of was there and you could see it all. You couldn't even start to say how wonderful it was! There were peach, apple, plum, pear, cherry, mango, pinapple and banana trees plus a lot more fruits. There were strawberry patches, grape vineyards, tomato, lettuce and asparagus patches and much, much more. There was fruits and vegetables coming out of their ears! There was so much of it! There were paths up to mountains that were in the distance. There was lovely clean spings and waterfalls. Behind some of the waterfalls there were small caves and you could see that animals were living there or had been living there.
It was the prettiest sight you would've seen in your life! It was almost like they were in a different world. They started eating just about whatever they could find. It was delisuis. Suddenly a voice, the same as before said:
CONGRATULATIONS. YOU HAVE COMPLETED MY FIRST TASK. WALK ALONG THE PATH UNTIL YOU REACH THE SIGN THAT SAYS:
TASK 2
YOU HAVE TO BE ON THE TRAIL AND OUT OF THIS PLACE WITHIN AN HOUR OR ELSE YOU WILL HAVE TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES.
CHAPTER 5
Within an hour they were on the trail. They walked....and walked.... and walked until they were quite weary so they rested. After a while they got up and began walking again. Nobody talked to each other. In this place if you looked around a lot that would be enough wonder. Not long after they started walking again that they found a small sign with the words:
TASK 2
"Finally, we're here," said Mony.
"Yeah," said Eliza.
There in front of them were two medium size oak trees with a strong white rope tied between the two of them. That same voice said:
"YOU MUST HAVE EVERYONE STAND UPON THE ROPE AND JOIN SHOULDERS. IF YOU DO THAT, STAND STAIGHT, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND COUNT TO THREE. THEN AFTER THAT OPEN YOUR EYES AND YOU WILL BE SOMEPLACE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN BEFORE."
They tried and tried that, but as soon as they got three people got on they lost balance and fell off.
"This is hard," said Ellen tiredly.
"Sure is. But we've got to keep going. We can't give up." said Mony.
"I got an idea," said Rachel, the girl who never, ever talks at all. Everyone stared and gasped at her, because it's the first time that they've heard her speak, even a word and most surprisingly, a sentence. She just ignored them and said, "First everyone stand right in front of the rope. Now link shoulders. People right next the tree would you please grab onto it. Everybody step up onto the rope. Close your eyes and count to three."
Somebody whispered, "We did it."
CHAPTER 6
Eliza found herself in front of the yellow school bus. She ran over and hugged Rachel.
"What, what?" asked Rachel.
"You saved us, thanks a lot. Boy do I want to go home." Eliza said wistfully.
"You and me both."
"How come you never, ever said anything to anybody before?" asked Eliza curiously.
"There was nothing much to say. Nobody ever said anything, not even a word to me at all," said Rachel.
Sorry I never talked to you. It was because I thought that you just didn't talk."
Then they jumped in the bus with Mony and Ellen who were just arriving and drove away.
