Camp

By: Ben Umans

The camp was a beautiful place. There were woods and a huge pasture by the cabins. In the pasture around dark while roasting marshmallows at the campfire there was a THUD! We all turned around and looked. Then we saw it. It was big, bumpy and black. It was a meteorite! When everybody saw it, they all wanted a big piece of the meteorite, but there wasnít enough for everyone. So there were three things we could do: donate it to a museum, leave it, or learn about it and give everyone a small piece. So the adults discussed, the kids discussed and they all argued. Max (who was interested in astronomy and meteorites) led a group of people to donate the meteorite to a museum. But Joe (who was scared of almost everything) said they should leave it the way it was, and some kids, like Lisa, didn't really care. So they argued and discussed and they finally took a huge vote in the dining hall. There were 292 ballots entered and it took the staff a day and a half to count all the ballots. By 11:30 a.m. on the last day the final scores were, 96 to donate the meteorite to a museum, 39 people said leave it and 157 people said they wanted to learn about it and get a small piece. The teachers all said it was the greatest camp experience ever.
