Tea Party, 1930

Two girls having a dolls' tea party, 1930.

They are feeding their dolls at a table they have set. In the background are signs, for reading practice, about the inside and outside of a house.

Col. Parker and John Dewey were among the early adapters of the German kindergarten to American schools in their schools in the 1890's. By the 1930's kindergarten classes had been established in many public schools throughout the nation. This photograph of a University Elementary School class illustrates the active and dramatics aspects of kindergarten curriculum -- a tea party acted out with all necessary trappings scaled to approriate size. This is probably the class of Mary Alice Campbell who taught in Blaine 184.
