Students grinding corn, 1904.
First grade students taking corn off the cob, and grinding it into meal using stone, mortar
and pestle. They studied how people grew plants and made them into food in different climates.
This is a marketing photograph to demonstrate new methods of teaching,
so the there is a music score on the blackboard, showing that the students are
also learning music notation. Older classes sometimes composed simple music
for poems.
