When your child starts at Lab, so do you

From the very first day of school, you are part of the Lab family and being a Lab parent comes with enormous benefits. Seeing your child receive a world-class education is certainly one, but so is being a part of the Schools’ larger community. The adults at Lab, teachers and parents alike, are integral to our community of learners

Parents make a difference. Your participation counts

When you make a contribution of any size to Lab, you are joining parents, alumni, and friends who help ensure that we can provide each child with the most outstanding education. Contributions allow Lab to continue to attract and retain the best teachers and most qualified students, and to implement programs that support a broad, vibrant, and challenging educational experience. Through our giving program, support for student financial aid has continued to grow. But we need to do more to ensure that financial constraints do not limit any students’ choices.

Our goal is to have all families make a financial contribution to Lab. All we ask is that you give according to your own situation, and that you make Lab one of your family’s top charitable priorities while the school is your child’s educational home.

Your time is also a gift

There are many ways to give your time, energy, and creativity to the Schools, ranging from a few hours each year to significant, longer-term commitments. We need your support and welcome your participation.

Parents’ Association and School Councils

Every Lab parent is automatically a member of the Parents’ Association (PA), which promotes educational excellence by facilitating communication and cooperation among parents, administration, faculty, students, and the Board of Directors, and by helping to implement school activities.

Room Parents

Every N/K, Primary, and Lower School classroom benefits from the help of volunteer Room Parents. They support the class by helping with projects, recruiting field trip chaperones, and inviting families to share traditions, cultures, and celebrations. Speak to your child’s teacher to learn how you can help.

Parent-driven Events and Activities

In addition to helping in the classroom or chaperoning a field trip, contact the PA about these activities that rely on parent involvement:

  • All-school: Rites of May, Bizaarnival, textbook buyback
  • Division-specific: picture days, U-High’s Arts Fest and May Project, Giant Gym Nights, Bookswap, graduations, and teacher appreciation events

Working with the Office of Alumni Relations and Development

Dedicated volunteers are an important part of the efforts made by Lab’s Office of Alumni Relations and Development. The Development Committee works to encourage ongoing philanthropic support from fellow parents, while the Connections Host Committee enhances the annual gala event through work on underwriting, ticket sales, and auction management.
