Using Personally Owned Laptops on the Laboratory Schools Wireless
Network
Connecting personally owned laptop computers to the Laboratory Schools'
wireless network is permitted with the following understandings:
- Students in grades 6-12 are eligible to claim a CNET ID, as are
school employees who qualify as eligible users under the University
of Chicago's Eligibility and Acceptable Use
policy. Since the University operates the Lab Schools' network, a
valid CNET is required to access the wireless network.
- Using your laptop must not deprive others of access to the Schools'
computing resources.
- You are using your laptop at school for work-related tasks clearly in
keeping with the Schools' educational mission.
- Regardless of who owns the computer, people who use Lab Schools and
University of Chicago network resources are subject to all provisions of Lab
Schools and University of Chicago computing policies. If you are considering
using a personally owned laptop at school, you should read both policies
carefully first.
- Neither the Laboratory Schools nor the University of Chicago bears any
liability whatsoever for damage, theft, or loss of personally owned laptops,
attached peripheral devices, or data thereupon while on school premises.
- For wireless connectivity issues with personally owned computers, please
call the University Help Desk at 834-TECH.
- If additional school owned equipment is needed for you to use your laptop
at school, providing it (or not) is at the discretion of the Manager of
Technical Support Services.
- Personally owned computers may not be plugged into wired data jacks.
