Computer science teacher Baker Franke a Golden Apple finalist

Teacher Baker Franke is one of 32 finalists (selected from a pool of 510 nominations and 215 applicants) for the 2013 Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching. After a final round of review and observations, the Foundation will announce ten recipients of this prestigious award in May.

Every few years the PE department gives Lab’s youngest children a chance to share what they’ve learned. See the attached photos of the March show at which kids through fourth grade (and some fifth graders) performed for their peers and parents.

U-Highers publish history/economics journal

After interning at the UChicago Press last summer, four U-Highers collaborated with two of Lab’s history teachers to start a publication of student papers in history and economics. The journal, InFlame, will be published semiannually on the Lab website. Read the first issue.
