Seniors Lane Gunderman and Danny Zhang excel in 2013 Intel Science competition
Posted Feb 07 2013
Both students advanced in the Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS), Lane Gunderman as a finalist and Danny Zhang as a semifinalist.
The Intel STS recognizes 300 students and their schools as semifinalists each year to compete for $1.25 million in awards. From that select pool, 40 finalists are invited to Washington, DC, in March to participate in final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists, and compete for the top award of $100,000.
Both of these students began their work as part of Lab’s Summer Link program, which places students in internships at the University and with other organizations. Lane’s project was titled, Investigating the Fenna-Matthews-Olson Complex Using Molecular Dynamics Simulations: Exploring the Mechanics of Energy Transport in Photosynthesis, and Danny’s was, LIN28 Represses miR-150 Maturation in MLL-Associated Leukemia.
