Fourth graders in the style of Roy Lichtenstein
Posted January 10
Before winter break, Gina Alicea’s fourth grade art students created Pop Art self-portraits. This year Ms. Alicea built on the excitement generated by the Roy Lichtenstein exhibit at the Art Institute and had her students explore his work and color palette as they thought about the question, “What is Pop Art?” The students started by understanding and practicing making contour line drawings before drawing a self- portrait using simplified contour lines. The children then painted their portraits using flat, bold, non- realistic color before adding dots.
