Hour After

General Information

Hour After is available to Nursery through Second Grade students who need extended day activities or to align their dismissal time with their older siblings. The program runs for approximately one hour after the regular school day dismissal. Dismissal times are at 3:20 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday. Several registration options are available. You may register for the entire week or for a specific day. Occasional use registrations are also available. Please click on the Occasional Use link on the left to learn more about this option.

Registration

Registration is available for weekly attendance, i.e., 5 days/week, or daily attendance, e.g., Mondays, Tuesdays, and/or Thursdays, for the quarter. "Occasional Use" is also available on a daily basis. Registrations may be changed to accommodate parents' changing schedules, but opportunity for refund or cancellation is limited since original enrollments lead to staffing decisions thus directly impacting program costs. Change requests can be made by contacting the Lab After School office. Occasional Use is available by contacting the Lab After School office or using the link to the left.

Activities

Hour After is structured to provide students with something nourishing, something engaging, and some time to relax. Students receive a snack, participate in reading time, and then engage in either outdoor play or structured arts and crafts.

Hour After Group Assignments

Blaine: Just as with our Late Day groups, Hour After groups are formed by age and school day teacher assignment. These groupings match those of our Late Day program. Therefore, students will always be with other students from their regular day classroom as well as students from two to four other classrooms. Groups are formed based on enrollment numbers.

Woodlawn: The Woodlawn Hour After groups meet together with the Woodlawn Late Day groups.

Room Locations

Blaine: Our Hour After groups share space with the regular school day classrooms in Blaine Hall. Room assignments change from quarter to quarter. Each day, students are escorted by their school day teachers to a designated bench where they meet Lab After School staff.

Woodlawn: Hour After and Late Day take place in both of the Woodlawn buildings. Students thus remain in their regular school building for their Hour After and Late Day participation. Teachers escort the students to the after school staff each day.

Snacks

Students are provided with a snack each day that strictly follows the allergy guidelines provided by our nurse. Please contact our office for more information.

Attendance Policy

Children registered but absent will receive calls home until they are located. Our office will be informed of student absences from the regular school day. Please contact the Lab After School office to notify us of your child's absence if they have left early or will miss only their after school programs.

Dismissal

Hour After uses the full array of dismissal options including the carline, classroom pick-up, North Side Bus, and the Blaine 1st Floor Hallway . Students using the carline are required to stay with their Hour After group until their car has been found. Students will not be allowed to leave their groups to join an older self-dismissing sibling. Parents picking their students up are asked to meet the student in the Blaine West Hallway outside of the Lower School office. One dismissal choice is accepted in our registration system per quarter. If you have varying preferences on varying days, please contact our office. Woodlawn students dismiss from their Hour After and Late Day classrooms, or, pending weather, the playground or front porch.
