Physical Education

The development of physical skills and the understanding of concepts related to health fitness enhancement can provide students with a foundation for a lifetime of healthful pursuits. The Physical Education Program has been designed to meet this end. We offer a wide variety of activity units in order to accommodate interests and encourage students to select units of varying content.

Students begin their physical education in kindergarten with classes that meet four days a week for 25 minutes. This continues until third grade, when classes meet three days a week for 45 minutes. Beginning in grade five students return to the four day schedules with classes lasting 45 minutes. In the seventh and eighth grades elective units are offered during the spring quarter. The high school program is primarily elective, with five required units (out of 18) in dance, swimming, principles of fitness, fitness center, and injury care and prevention.
