Message from the Principals

October 25, 2007

The University of Chicago Laboratory Schools is a member of the regional education association known as the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS). More than two hundred schools from 13 states are members of this organization. Every seven years, member schools undergo a reaccredidation process that monitors schools for adherence to two fundamental principles:

  • Full and accurate disclosure of mission, philosophy, program, qualifications of its professional staff, procedures and services.
  • Congruence between the school's stated mission and its actual programs and services.

The reaccreditation process begins with a yearlong self-study that includes input from parents, students, faculty, staff, administration and the Board of Directors. For our first professional development day on Friday, November 2, grade levels and departments will begin the process of writing our self-study. Faculty will be engaged throughout the year in this self-study, which will be the basis of a site visit by an ISACS visiting team in the fall of 2008. We have found the reaccredidation process to be most helpful as we think about what is best about our work here at Lab and how we could make that an even better experience for all constituents.
