Parents in the Middle SchoolIt can be difficult for parents to understand the changes their children are undergoing during a period of development often referred to as the transition years. The Laboratory Schools assumes an additional educational responsibility as it works with middle school age children. Parents need to understand their own transitions and the developmental aspects of their children; parent education is therefore a significant component of our school program. Our faculty, staff, and administrators see parents as educational partners. Our hope is that parents will actively participate in the activities of the Middle School Parent Council. We also count on parents to assist with the planning and chaperoning of parties, dances and trips as well as being helpful to teachers by sharing special interests and talents in the classrooms. All of this becomes a bit more complicated during middle school years as students work hard to have the school be their own and less their parents'. Parents are welcome to visit the Middle School. If your son or daughter prefers you visit classes other than his or hers, we can help you arrange to do that. Please schedule a visit through the Middle School Principal's office. | |
