Over two years ago in “On the Same Page,” I wrote about a topic that has been on my figurative plate ever since.

I am very pleased to announce that the Laboratory Schools have entered into a new seven-year food service agreement with ARAMARK. This is the same vendor who has so successfully operated the food service program at the cafeteria facility of our next-door neighbor, the Graduate School of Business.

We expect to become a full partner in planning for an attractive and more functional kitchen and serving area where healthy foods are served on a daily basis. Our new vendor is very experienced in school food service operations all over the country and specializes in creating menus that will satisfy the basic food group requirements and, just as important, they know how to provide food that tastes good.

A change that we expect to be available by next fall is the option for parents to pre-order food for children in grades 1-5. Charge accounts will be established and food will be delivered to the classrooms daily. Specific instructions about this convenience will be included in back to school packets in the fall.

Quality food at fair prices in an attractive setting is a big step in the right direction! It should give us all something to look forward to in September. Have a wonderful summer.
