GREETINGS EARTHLING REPORTERS!

We are your editors, Flo Vaughan and Jeff Benson. We would like to welcome you to the staff of the Martian Sun-Times, the first interplanetary internet newspaper.

We would like you, as investigative reporters, to explore the weather and seasons here on Mars and compare them to Earth. We have four areas for you to investigate:

  1. Seasons on Mars and Earth: Endless summer vacation? Here you will infer the seasons on Mars and compare orbits, angle of tilt, temperatures and lengths of seasons on Earth and Mars.
  2. Today on Earth and Mars: Hot is a relative term. You will investigate the temperature on Earth and Mars, make graphs of the Martian temperatures, and look at weather for your US city.
  3. Atmospheric conditions on Earth and Mars: Is it all sun all the time? Study the kinds of clouds on Earth and Mars. Chart temperatures for Mars on clear and dusty days. How is the temperature of the surface and atmosphere affected? Investigate Martian dust storms.
  4. Probing Earth: What should we pack? What if MASA (Martian Aeronautics and Space Administration) sent probes to Earth at the latitude and longitude where the Viking probes landed on Mars? What would they find?
This mission, should you choose to accept it, will lead you where no person has gone before. When you have finished your investigations we would like you to write an article about what you have learned and submit it to your teacher for publication in your classroom edition of the Martian Sun-Times.

Go boldly, Earthlings. Nothing can go wrong go wrong go wrong go wrong....
